Your Councillor

About Mike Howe

I was elected onto the East Devon District Council (EDDC) in May 2011 to serve the Clyst Valley Ward which comprises the parishes of Bishops Clyst, Clyst St. George and Farringdon including the villages of Clyst St. George, Clyst St. Mary, Ebford, Farringdon and Sowton.

I live locally in Clyst St. Mary, and have been married to Kate for 11 years. We have 2 children, and run Mills & Son Bakery & Londis Shop in Clyst St. Mary.

My objective as the representative for the Clyst Valley Ward is:

To work to improve the health, safety, prosperity and happiness of all Clyst Valley residents equitably.

My role on Council

I currently sit on 2 EDDC committees:

Development Management Committee
Most planning issues are dealt with under ‘delegated powers’ by the Head of Planning. When a matter is considered more contentious it is dealt with by this committee.

Overview and Scrutiny Committee
This committee supports the work of the Cabinet and the Council as a whole. It allows citizens to have a greater say in Council matters by holding public enquiries into matters of local concern. It also monitors the decisions of the Cabinet. It can call-in a decision which has been made by Cabinet or one of its members but not yet implemented.

I also serve on the following related bodies:

  • East and Mid Devon Crime and Disorder Scrutiny Panel
